Located near downtown Cedar Rapids, Mound View’s residential area sits between two highly regarded private colleges. Home to a large regional hospital and other businesses, the diversity of the Mound View neighborhood is reflected in the mix of its properties.
Mature trees shade the large turn-of-the-century homes, as well as modest houses built in the 1950s. Artist Grant Wood grew up in one of the vintage homes in Mound View. The historic residence, along with Grant Wood’s personal art studio, is owned and operated by the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. The site where he created his iconic 1930 painting, An American Gothic, continues to attract a large number of visitors.
Mount Mercy University is just beyond Mound View’s northeast boundary of Prairie Drive NE. Another private school, Coe College, sits closer to the southern border near the exit to Interstate 380. Framing the neighborhood, 12th Street NE winds away from I-380 turning into Oaklands Road NE.
A major cross-town road, First Avenue is the neighborhood’s eastern border. A host of restaurants, hotels, businesses and a large chain grocery store are located along the route. For shoppers headed to suburban malls or locals commuting to work, Mound View offers a prime location with quick access to major routes throughout the city.
Suited for families or singles, Mound View accommodates with quiet havens at Daniels Park and Tomahawk Park. Other nearby attractions include Elmcrest Country Club to the north and Cedar Rapids Country Club to the east of the neighborhood.
The 52402 zip code is also home to Central Park Church where Grant Wood was baptized. It currently serves as a neighborhood resource center organized by the Mound View Neighborhood Association.
