The Pepper Ridge Neighborhood of Bloomington, is in the 61705 zip code area of McLean County. The county incorporated in the early 1830s, and named Bloomington the county seat, before the land was acquired. Sixty Acres were donated by a local supporter of the county’s creation, and amidst the sprawling farms and ranches Bloomington was born.
The neighborhood is a relatively new development in the rural community as the boundaries are drawn following Fox Creek Road to the north. The eastern border follows the far side of Rutherford Drive, with Carrington Lane along the south, with Scarborough Street closes off the western front as it cuts back toward the Pepper Ridge Elementary.
To the north of the Pepper Ridge Neighborhood is the U.S. Cellular Coliseum an 8,000 plus seat venue that hosts everything from hockey to concerts, and is the regular home of the Prairie Thunder Hockey and Bloomington Extreme Football. To the east is Grady’s Family Fun Park, Ice cream Shop, and Grady’s pizza shop. The Fun Park is only open seasonally, but the Pizza Shop is available year round.
For the golfing enthusiasts there is the Crestwicke Country Club’s 6829-yard, par-72 course opened in 1969, to the south of the Pepper Ridge Neighborhood. The Den at Fox Creek golf course is 6,926 yards of golf set against a par 72, open since 1997, is to the west of the neighborhood.
Peering into the southwest horizon from the Pepper Ridge Neighborhood gives the feeling of isolation as the crops of distant farms gently rustle, as they sway in the breeze, yet the highway inter-change gives easy access to nearby Bloomington and Normal, with Peoria just a little further away.
The Pepper Ridge Neighborhood is also close to one of the Nestle operations in the area, as well as the home to the State Farm Insurance Company.
