The Old East Side neighborhood is conveniently located within Bloomington’s 61701 zip code. The neighborhood is extremely conveniently located. While it may not be possible to do everything on foot, it is an extremely pedestrian friendly area.
The location is ideal for both students or people who work at Illinois Wesleyan University which is just a few blocks away. It is also not far from Franklin Park, an area that is rich with architectural history and large homes.
The Bloomington Country Club provides plenty of opportunities for golfers to enjoy the sport, and for others to enjoy the upscale dining that the country club has to offer. Just east of the country club, there are several shopping centers. Towanda Plaza Shopping Center is just north of the country club. That road goes north into Normal.
Shopping is centered around the area that goes into Route 66. Empire Plaza Shopping Center, Colonial Plaza Shopping Center and Eastland Mall Shopping Center are all located very close to one another and just east of the country club. The OSF St. Joseph Medical Center is just south of Eastland Mall Shopping Center, and another shopping center is also nearby.
One of the entry or exit points for Constitution Trail is situated at the end of North Robinson Street, just two blocks west of Main Street and off of West Jefferson Street. The trail is actually 24+ miles long and goes from Bloomington to Normal, but there are many points at which bikers, inline skaters, walkers, or joggers can enter or exit the trail.
The trail follows the track of the now defunct Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. Nature lovers will delight in all of the spectacular native Midwestern vegetation that they can see along the way, not to mention the spectacular old trees along the trail and throughout this part of the city.
