A suburb of Chicago located about 40 miles outside the city, Aurora is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Nicknamed “The City of Lights,” Aurora was the first city in the United States to use electric lights to light an entire city. Extending into four counties, Aurora has four historic districts, and it plans to add 6,000 housing units to the residential area along the Fox River in the coming years.

Rent an apartment in Aurora, and you’ll have the opportunity to work at any of the area’s top employers, which include Caterpillar manufacturing company, Hollywood Casino, Rush-Copley Medical Center, and Dreyer Medical Center. This is a good area for educators, as the Indian Prairie School District 204, West Aurora Public School District 129, and the East Aurora Public School District 131 are all within the city’s top ten employers.

The city’s downtown area is situated along the Fox River, a location that has determined much of Aurora’s economic and social history. Today, this area includes the Westfield Shoppingtown at Fox Valley, the Paramount Theatre, and the Hollywood Casino, which contains more than 1,170 slot machines. Several community events take place here through the year, including the AuroraArtWalk, Downtown Alive, and Blues on the Fox, a festival that thousands attend each year. High school sports have an impact on this family-friendly community, and visiting the Phillips Park Zoo is great weekend activity for the kids.
