West Downtown is a neighborhood in downtown Boise, Idaho. The boundaries of West Downtown run southeast to northwest along West Crescent Rim Drive to Interstate 184, then follow northeast along North Garden Street to West Idaho, to North 19th Street to West State Street. They then run southeast on West State Street to North 16th Street/South Americana Boulevard, and then southwest on North 16th/South Americana to the Boise River. The boundaries then go southeast along the Boise River to South Capitol Boulevard, and return to West Crescent Rim.
West Downtown has many rentals, including homes, apartments, and town homes. The northern most section of West Downtown has a mix of retail and commercial property mixed in with older single-family homes and apartments and condos.
Parks are a part of West Downtown. Kathy Albertson Park is a 41-acre park in West Downtown that has paved footpaths, a fountain, greenbelt access, and a preserved nesting ground for migratory waterfowl. Next to Kathy Albertson Park is Ann Morrison Park with many amenities, including tennis courts, walking paths, playgrounds, and two lighted softball diamonds.
Arts and science are close to West Downtown. The Boise Art Museum at 670 Julia Davis Drive is within walking distance of West Downtown and has an extensive permanent collection of art, as well as galleries for traveling exhibitions. Just a few blocks south of the museum at 131 Myrtle Street is the Discover Center of Boise, with science exhibits, camps, and classes for kids.
Football Saturdays are loud in West Downtown. Just up the road is the iconic blue turf of the Boise State University Bronco’s Stadium. One of best teams in the nation over the last several years, the city stops to watch when the Bronco’s tee it up.
