The community spans one city block on either side of Harrison Boulevard, from West Hill Road on the north to Resseguie Street/West Hays Street on the south. The Harrison Boulevard community covers roughly .167 square miles and houses 735 residents. The vast majority of the homes here are older, which adds to the historic feel of the neighborhood. Most homes date back to pre-1940, and new construction tapered significantly since the 1940s. In its hay day, the Harrison Boulevard community attracted many of Boise’s most affluent, prominent residents, resulting in some beautiful, stately homes of various architectural styles. A median parkway was added in 1916 and still remains.
Several natural areas surround the Harrison Boulevard neighborhood on the east. Camelsback Park and Hulls Gulch/Camels Back Reserve is slightly north and the Military Reserve Park/Fort Boise Park is to the south. Veterans Memorial State Park and Boise Cascade Lake are within walking distance to the west. Clearly, Harrison Boulevard residents have no shortage of options for outdoor recreation and nature viewing within a short distance of home.
Within two miles west of the Harrison Boulevard neighborhood is the heart of the downtown area. Among the many attractions here are the Boise State University campus, capitol building, Boise Centre, and Egyptian Theatre. There are also several medical facilities in the downtown area, as well as a handful of city parks. The more prominent city parks in this area include Ann Morrison Park and Julia Davis Park.
