Norcross, GA Apartments for Rent

As the second oldest city in Gwinnett County, the city of Norcross is so much more than a popular suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. Norcross sits along the eastern continental divide – in fact, the main road through the city, the original Peachtree Road, follows the old Cherokee trail that led along the continental divide.

Chartered as a town in 1870, Norcross was settled long before that. Two forts were established during the War of 1812, one at Hog Mountain known as Fort Daniel, and one in Atlanta known as Peachtree Fort. These two forts helped the tiny settlement flourish. The arrival of the Richmond-Danville Railroad helped the town get a name. In 1889, John Thrasher purchased 250 acres around the train terminal to establish a town. He named the town in honor of his friend and former Atlanta mayor, Jonathan Norcross.

During the 1870s, Norcross became something of a resort town – people escaping the city would visit places like the Brunswick Hotel. But as new roads and highways by-passed the city, Norcross was all but forgotten – preserved in all of its 19th-century beauty. Because of this, the city was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the early 1980s.

With its location just 25 minutes from Downtown Atlanta and with easy access to major highways, Norcross has grown into one of Atlanta’s most popular suburbs. It is close to Lake Lanier, Stone Mountain, and the Mall of Georgia. It is a short drive from major universities, such as the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, and it is close to Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium, the Fox Theater, World of Coca-Cola, and the Atlanta Zoo. If you are looking for an apartment in the Atlanta area, be sure to consider Norcross apartments – they provide access to a beautiful historic downtown, terrific shops, great restaurants, and easy access to Downtown Atlanta.
