Clayton County, Georgia is located 12 miles south of Atlanta, within the five-county core of the Atlanta metro area. The county’s population is just under 274,000, and its county seat is Jonesboro. The county is located in the Piedmont region, between the Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains.

The internationally-renowned Spivey Hall is regarded as one of the Southeast’s finest performance halls. The 400-seat recital hall, known for its perfect acoustics and exceptional programming, attracts some of the world’s finest performers to its year-round schedule of classical, world and jazz instrumental and vocal performances. Spivey Hall is located on the campus of Clayton State University, 15 minutes by car from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Clayton State University is a public university with an enrollment of 6,785 students. Its wooded campus covers an area of 163 acres and features several ponds and a lake. The school is a part of the Division II NCAA sports in basketball, soccer, cross-country, tennis, golf and cheerleading programs.

Clayton State University’s School of Business and College of Health enjoy state-wide reputations. The Harry S. Downs Continuing Education Center offers multiple language programs, and is also a venue for conferences and special events.

This county is one of Georgia’s smallest in land size, covering an area of only 146 square miles; it is also the most densely-populated.

Along with numerous parks, Clayton County has the 32-acre Melvin L. Newman Wetlands Center, which offers a wetlands trail and exhibition complex. Reynolds Nature Preserve has four miles of hiking trails within its 146 acres of natural woodlands, ponds and streams.
