The neighborhood of Turpin Hill is located just to the southeast of downtown Augusta, Georgia. It is an older neighborhood consisting of small ranch and cottage-style homes. These homes are fairly close to the road and the lot sizes are small. The roads in Turpin Hill are narrow, and there are a lot of trees.
Davidson Magnet School, Academy of Richmond County High School, Laney High School, and Aquinas High School are among the schools serving Turpin Hill. The campus of Augusta State University is also in the area.
The Boll Weevil Café and Sweetery’s menu is eclectic – they specialize in desserts and southern-specialty items such as fried green tomatoes. They have been named as having “Best Desserts” by Augusta Magazine and were also featured in Cooking with Paula Deen and Southern Living magazine.
The Augusta Riverwalk Marina has boat slips for 65 boats and is the only full-service marina on the Savanna River in Augusta. Paddle boat and Jet Ski rentals are available.
The Augusta Marriott Hotel and Suites and the Econo Lodge Downtown are among the hotels nearby to Turpin Hill. The Wisteria Hall bed and breakfast was built in 1900 and is an example of neoclassical Greek architecture. Standing four stories tall, it is the tallest surviving home from that era.
The Augusta National Golf Club is one of the most famous golf courses in the world and is the home of the “Masters” tournament – one of the four “Major” golf tournaments on the PGA schedule. Formerly an exclusive “membership by invitation only” club, it is now open to the public on Mondays. Interested parties are advised to call ahead for availability.
