Harris Chiles is a primarily residential neighborhood in southwestern Atlanta. Dean Rusk Park is a 6-acre neighborhood park within Harris Chilies. Other parks within walking distance are the 6.37-acre West End Park, the 2-acre Howell Park, and the massive, 20.43-acre Washington Park. Washington Park offers tennis courts, picnic tables under shelter, a pavilion that seats 125, a playground, a football field, and a softball field.

Harris Chiles is family-friendly in many other ways, in addition to providing easy access to an Atlanta landmark park. It houses the Harland Boys & Girls Club, allowing youth a safe place to play and learn after school. There are also a number of highly rated schools in proximity to the neighborhood. Among them are M.A. Jones Elementary School, Ragsdale School, Angel’s Paradise Higher Learning Academy, Edwin Moses Track, and Washington High School.

The neighborhood is also popular among college students. Atlanta Baptist College is less than a half-mile northeast of Harris Chiles, while Spelman College is less than a half-mile east. Morehouse School of Medicine is also with a half-mile to the east of the community. Clark Atlanta University and Morris Brown College are within a one-mile radius of Harris Chiles.

Other cultural opportunities also abound for residents of this medium-sized community. Wren’s Nest House Museum is in the Harris Chiles neighborhood, while Spelman College Museum is only a half-mile to its east. The Herndon Home Museum is a mile northeast of Harris Chiles. The fun World of Coca-Cola is an Atlanta landmark museum of the soft drink company, and it is only two miles northeast of the neighborhood. Within a two-mile radius are the Georgia Capitol Museum, the Salvation Army Museum of the South, the Atlanta Braves Museum & Hall of Fame, and Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta.
