East of Military Trail between Lake Ida and Woolbright Roads is the community of Delray Dunes in Boynton Beach. This gated golf course area has 24-hour security and lush landscaping. Winding drives lined with palm trees and pines are joined by colorful plantings of bougainvillea and hibiscus in a tropical setting.
Residential sections feature some 300 acres of homes and villas. Two lakes provide homes with water views, while other houses face the golf course.
At the heart of the community is the Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club, which features an 18-hole championship course, designed by Pete Dye and originally opened in 1969. The greens were renovated in 2002 to make the course more challenging while remaining true to Dye’s original design. The course includes a chipping area, driving range, putting green, and pro shop. Delray Dunes has hosted the Bethesda Pro Am Tournament, as well as outstanding golfers such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, and Fuzzy Zoeller, among others.
Community recreational activities include golfing, swimming, and tennis. Men, women, and juniors play in an active tennis program; facilities include a practice wall and ball machine. The clubhouse provides locker rooms and two fitness centers — one for cardiovascular workouts and the other for weight training. The clubhouse also hosts social events in its dining room, lounges, and meeting space. Poolside dining is available, too.
For shopping, nearby Boynton Beach Mall features both large department stores and specialty shops amidst tropical landscaping with fountains. Adjacent to the mall is Palm Plaza, which offers additional shopping.
