Confederate soldier Henry Theodore Titus founded Titusville in 1867. Soon after, he built a hotel with his wife and named it the Titus House. The city could have been called Riceville, but in an interesting twist, Henry Titus beat Captain Clark Rice in a game of dominos to decide who they would name the city after.

The US Space Walk Hall of Fame honors America’s astronauts. Visitors can walk through and compare handprints with astronauts. Titusville is also home to many parks — bring a camera, because the parks are known for their large variety of Florida birds, wildlife, and vegetation. Fish from shore or go boating in the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. The Mosquito Lagoon is known nationwide for its large, aggressive Redfish population. Fishermen from all over come here to test their skills.

In May 2008, Titusville was featured in Southern Living magazine on the list of the best exits off Interstate 95. Dixie Crossroads is a well-known restaurant famous for their rock shrimp. It attracts people from across the country, who enjoy not only the fresh seafood but the space shuttle launches that take place at nearby Cape Canaveral.

Often called the “place where space and nature meet,” Titusville is near the Kennedy Space Center and the Canaveral National Seashore. Enjoy Titusville’s great weather, long history, and fabulous outdoor activities.
