Thompson East is a small residential community in Lake Magdalene, Florida. The neighborhood is situated just north of Bearss Avenue, connected by only Cozumel Drive. The small neighborhood includes the roads Cozumel Drive, Contoy Place, Merida Lane, and Cancun Place. Average median family income in the area is $75,000 per year with an average detached home value of $620,000.

Scenery is one of the great things about the Thompson East neighborhood. There are two major lakes in the area, including Lake Magdalene, which shares the same name as the city. The other, Platt Lake, is to the north of Lake Magdalene and is also quite large.

To the south of Thompson East, just barely outside of the community, is the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library. This large library is known for their large assortment of books and research materials. It also has a great technology program with numerous computers and Internet access. Part of their technology program includes a wide variety of classes for helping community members better understand basic computing. The library also focuses heavily on helping children learn to love books. Throughout the year there are many ongoing book readings for children.

Bearss Avenue to Dale Mabry Highway and going north is where much of the best area shopping is located. This large shopping area, about a mile away from Thompson East, has numerous major brand names stores, including Target, Wal-Mart, Ross, Staples, Radio Shack, Dollar Tree, and Publix Super Market.

Dining is also popular around the Bearss Avenue and Dale Mabry Highway area, with numerous popular restaurant chains located within a short drive from the intersection both north and south on Dale Mabry Highway. Some of these restaurants include Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar, TGI Fridays, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q, Sweet Tomatoes, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, and Kobe’s Japanese Steakhouse.
