The Museum preserves the history of cigar making in the early part of the city’s history. The Gardens here are exquisite and often used for weddings and receptions as well as private parties.

Approximately one mile away is the University of Tampa with a student enrollment of 6,500. UT offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. On the campus is one of the iconic buildings of the city, the old Tampa Bay Hotel, preserved now as the Henry B. Plant Museum. The Moorish architecture is exquisite and the hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Tampa Theatre, the Tampa Museum of Art and Lykes Gaslight Park are about a block from the Henry B. Plant Museum. Lykes Gaslight Park is the site of the Florida Orchestra’s pops in the Park series, the Latin Fest and other events. It’s also a nice place to relax and people-watch.

Channelside is also quite close. This is a lively entertainment district with great attractions and activities non-stop. The Florida Aquarium is here for starters. The NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning play at the Times Forum at Channelside. There are numerous nightclubs and an IMAX.
