White sands, rolling surf, and gentle breezes welcome all to Clearwater’s beaches. The beaches are open 24 hours a day for swimming, surfing, fishing, and sunbathing in the Florida sunshine. Several parking lots are provided close to the waterfront area. Beachwalk is a waterfront boardwalk where bicyclists, rollerbladers, and pedestrians can enjoy the sun and water, whether to dine, play games, or just gather to socialize in the balmy climate.
The Prospect Towers residential area of Clearwater is just two miles from Clearwater Harbor and a short drive west on Route 60/Chestnut Street to Clearwater Beach, one of the top beaches in the county. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by Chestnut Street, on the south by Turner Street, to the east by South Prospect Avenue, and to the west by South Myrtle Avenue.
Shopping opportunities are scattered throughout the Clearwater area. There is a Publix supermarket on Gulf to Bay Boulevard, Wal-Mart on State Route 19, and a cluster of businesses south of Eagle Lake Park, including another Wal-Mart, Aldi’s Winn Dixie, Kash & Karry, and Albertson’s. Public schools in the area include Bellaire Elementary School, North Pinellas Secondary School, and Clearwater High Schools.
Eagle Lake Park is located south of Prospect Towers and offers walking and biking trails through wooded areas and wetlands where visitors can view bald eagles, otters, tortoises, and squirrels while enjoying the picnic area and playground. A dog park is on-site, as well.
Clearwater’s best-kept secret is Frenchy’s group of restaurants scattered around the beaches area. First opened in 1981, there are now four, as well as several stores selling fresh seafood. Family-friendly prices and fresh, delicious seafood selections (including fresh groper in season) will entice appetites from all over.
