The Palms is an unusual community because it is divided into two sections. One part is in an enclosed rectangle formed by Budwood Street and Prowmore Drive. Two short blocks away is another rectangle created by Pastoral Way and the curved Frankford Drive. The other main difference is the type of homes in the two areas. In the Budwood Street rectangle, which fronts a small bayou, there are manufactured homes placed close together on long, rectangular lots. Homes along the northern end of Budwood Street have backyards that front the water. A large communal grassy area faces the bayou.
The second rectangle is farther back from the water and is made up of individually designed single-family homes. Lots are larger, irregularly shaped, and have more mature trees along the roadways. The entire community is southwest of downtown Brandon, less than a mile from Interstate 75.
Just outside the neighborhood is a sort of restaurant row. Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, and Mimi’s Cafe are all within walking distance. The area is also a shopper’s haven. The block-long Lake Brandon Village and its neighbor Lake Brandon Plaza are less than a half-mile from Palms. For even more shopping, the Regency Square mall is to the north. Bus service is available on West Lumsden Road and Providence Road right outside the neighborhood. Schools and houses of worship are all outside the Palms, but nearby for the convenience of Palms residents.
