Only a couple of miles away is the University of Tampa. With a student enrollment of 6,500, the university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. On the UT campus is a Tampa landmark, the old Tampa Bay Hotel. Now named the Henry B. Plant Museum, the Moorish-style building is on the National Register of Historic Places. River cruises leave from here, and many events are scheduled in the fine old hotel.

Ybor City is equally convenient. Ybor City is a National Historic Landmark District, notable for the early days when Tampa was a world-renowned manufacturer of fine cigars. The Museum here presents the history and cultural significance of the district. The Museum Gardens are a delight any time and the frequent site of weddings and private parties.

Also close are the Tampa Museum of Art, as well as Gaslight Park, the scene of delightful outdoor concerts.
