The Largo, Florida neighborhood of Newport is located south of Bay Drive, east of Belcher Road, and west of 66th Street. Surrounding Newport are several major senior communities. As a result, Newport hosts a very seasonal population, as many retirees travel north during the summer months.
Homes in the Newport area are well maintained. A good percentage of homes have swimming pools, which are the gathering spots for countless Florida barbeques and potlucks. Because of this, it is common to smell food on the grill and hear the sounds of splashing in Newport.
Since the neighborhood is heavily residential, traffic is relatively light, making Newport an excellent place for dog walking, running, and cycling. The excellent tree coverage in the neighborhood provides plenty of shade to active residents as well.
For dining, the best destination is about a mile north off of Bay Drive. Along this road are numerous fast food and sit down restaurants. These restaurants offer a variety of tastes from around the world. Some of the most popular restaurants include Outback Steakhouse, Boston Market, Tijuana Flats, Pizza Hut, and Applebee’s.
Recreation can be found at the East Bay Golf Club less than a mile to the west. The course is well maintained and provides a challenge without being frustrating to the less skilled golfers. The club also offers a large clubhouse staffed with knowledgeable golf pros.
