San Luis Neighborhood in Tallahassee, FL

San Luis Neighborhood

Tufts of Spanish moss drape large trees in the heavily wooded San Luis neighborhood. Spacious ranch homes and contemporaries have a gracious feel, enhanced by the sidewalks that run along artistically landscaped lawns. San Luis is accessed by San Luis Road off West Tharpe Street just to the north. Mission Road forms the south boundary of this neighborhood in the 32304 zip code area.

San Luis is conveniently located near several higher education institutions. Tallahassee Community College offers a range of two-year programs. Florida State University (FSU) provides programs across all disciplines, and offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. Both schools lie only only a mile away, and Florida A & M (FAMU) is only a bit further.

The area along West Tennessee Street serves residents’ retail, dining, and entertainment needs. There are four shopping centers here, as well as a grocery store, several pharmacies, and many casual dining establishments. Governor’s Square is the most comprehensive mall, with four national department stores and casual dining.

Downtown Marketplace at Ponce de Leon Park has a farmers market each Saturday. Along with great local produce, shoppers are treated to music, storytelling, arts, and crafts.

Not far south sits the Tallahassee Museum, which offers several historic buildings, a nature trail, and a full calendar of arts festivals. Favorites include Halloween Howl, The Swamp Stomp, and The Jazz and Blues Festival. These events are entertainment and history combined.

Children and parents enjoy The Challenger Learning Center. The center was created by FSU and FAMU to encourage interest in math and science through entertaining exhibits. The IMAX, Space Mission Simulator, and planetarium are always popular.

San Luis is close to many recreational areas, including the half-million acre Apalachicola National Forest. Several state parks are close as well.
