Great outdoor recreation is all around. The vast area southwest of the neighborhood extends for miles and includes Apalachicola National Forest, state forests, and protected water management areas. Apalachee Bay is about 20 miles south, providing access to the Gulf of Mexico.
A short drive away is Edward Ball Wakulla Spring State Park. This park has one of the deepest and largest freshwater springs in the world. Visitors can enjoy exploring these by guided riverboat tours or glass bottom boat tours. The park is also an ideal place for swimming, hiking, and snorkeling. It and the Wakulla Spring Lodge are on the National Register of Historic Places and are National Natural Landmarks.
Great shopping is also close by. Governor’s Square Mall has four major department stores and many popular fast food and casual dining establishments.
Ponce de Leon Park is the site of the Saturday Downtown Marketplace. It is a weekly gala of music, arts and crafts, farmers market, and entertaining storytellers. Nearby Market Square is an eclectic area of specialty stores and boutiques.
Tallahassee Community College, Florida State University, and Florida A & M University are all close to Providence.
