Hartsfield Village neighborhood is made up of tidy bungalows and spacious ranch homes in an area of level terrain, large pines, and Gum Pond. It is quite convenient to retail, educational, and recreational areas, bound along the north by Hartsfield Road. It can also be accessed by Mary Ellen Drive, off West Tharpe Street.

A busy retail center at the intersection of West Tennessee Street and North Ocala Road provides everyday conveniences, with several value stores, fast-food restaurants, and a pharmacy. A large grocery store and a bowling center, Seminole Bowl, are here as well. Other retail centers are close, including Westwood Shopping Center and Wal-Mart.

The neighborhood is very close to several institutions of higher learning. The two largest are just east, Florida State University and Florida A & M University. Tallahassee Community College and Lively Technical Center are within walking distance.

East of FSU is the state capitol, on the National Register of Historic Places. In the same area are the Museum of Florida History and the Civic Center of Tallahassee-Leon County. The Challenger Learning Center IMAX is here, too.

Numerous recreational facilities are equally convenient. The closest is the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail. Lake Bradford is a bit beyond the trail and popular with those who love water sports. Lake Bradford is just east of one of the largest national forests in the state, Apalachicola, a massive recreational area.

Edward Bell Wakulla Springs State Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Natural Landmark. The park has one of the world’s largest and deepest freshwater springs. Glass bottom boat tours provide a glimpse into the beautiful waters. This park also has swimming, hiking and snorkeling. The Lodge reflects a Mediterranean Revival style with rooms overlooking the spring.
