Quail Run, a neighborhood in popular Pensacola, Florida, is surrounded by options for recreation. Golfers don’t need a car to reach a country club east of the neighborhood. Athletes enjoy a nearby athletic complex, several parks are in the area, and Escambia Bay offers unlimited possibilities for fun.
Scenic Hills Country Club is a golf cart-ride from Quail Run. Voted “Best of the Bay” by the Pensacola News Journal in 2008, 2009, 2010, this course has pine tree-lined fairways, rolling hills and challenging elevation changes. Former US Open champion Jerry Pate updated the Chic Adams layout in 1992, and the course has seen several renovations and upgrades since then. Golfers can also play at the Osceola Municipal Golf Course, and the Marcus Pointe Golf Course is within five minutes of the neighborhood.
On summer nights, the sounds of America’s favorite pastime can be heard from the John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Complex, within one-half mile south of Quail Run. More than 15 baseball and softball fields are part of the athletic complex and adjacent Drummond Park. Bowling is available across the street at De Luna Lanes.
Ashton Brosnahan Park covers 110 acres within one-half mile northwest of Quail Run. The park is home to the Pensacola Futbol Club, which sponsors recreational and competitive soccer leagues on its nine fields; a dog park allows visitors to include Fido in the fun, and is divided into sections for small and large dogs.
More than 11,000 students attend the University of West Florida. The university offers arts and science, business and professional studies disciplines, with its first enrollment in 1967. The university’s main campus is within one mile of Quail Run, and consists of more than 1,600 acres of rolling hills and natural woods along the Escambia River.
