Pine Forest, a community just outside the historic city of Pensacola, Florida, is a kid-friendly neighborhood with a variety of entertainment not far from home.

Pine Forest High School, home to the Eagles, is three miles south of Pine Forest. More than 1,700 students attend the school, which opened in 1975. Adjacent to Pine Forest High is the West Florida High School of Advanced Technology, which hosts nearly 1,300 students. West Florida High was picked among America’s Best High Schools of 2010 and received a bronze medal from US News and World Report.

The Marcus Pointe Golf Club opened in 1990 and is within a five-minute drive of Pine Forest. The 18-hole Earl Stone-designed course spans 6,700 yards across more than 600 acres of rolling hills and natural Florida woods. Osceola Municipal Golf Course, Scenic Hills Country Club and Green Meadows Par Three Golf Course are also within a few miles.

Those who enjoy playing field sports can suit up for baseball and softball fewer than five miles from their community at the John R. Jones Junior Athletic Complex and adjacent Drummond Park. Sixteen fields are available in the area. Soccer players have the opportunity to join the Pensacola Futbol Club, which sponsors recreational and competitive leagues on its nine fields at Ashton Brosnahan Park. The 110-acre park is also home to a dog park, which offers separate areas for large and small dogs.

Nine Mile Square is a short drive east of Pine Forest. Shoppers can find a Wal-Mart Supercenter and several other national retailers there. Diners have a variety of nearby options, including Vallarta Mexican, Chili’s and King Super Buffet before they take in a movie at the Carmike 10.
