North Highlands Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Tucked within a scenic, quiet area, the North Highlands neighborhood is located south of West Fairfield Drive, west of North Palafox Street, and north of West Cervantes Street. North Pace Boulevard borders the east side and is located just west of Interstate 110. Residents regularly visit area shopping centers such as the Cordova Mall and University Mall, both of which offer close proximity to the highway, off of Interstate 110 north of the community.
Dog owners in the neighborhood enjoy the Bayview Dog Beach on the shores of Bayou Texar, east of the neighborhood. Admission to the community site is free, however dogs must wear a tag to show they have been vaccinated for rabies. The one-acre, fenced park allows dogs access to the water and beach area. Showers are available for dogs and their owners, and bags for clean-up are provided too.
The Pensacola Naval Air Station, which lies southwest of the neighborhood, is home to the naval aerobatic team, the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels have been performing for audiences throughout the world since the team’s inception in 1946. The air facility is also the main training base for pilots in the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
The neighborhood is also north of the historic Pensacola Museum of Commerce. The museum showcases exhibits that depict stores and a life-size streetscape from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Carriages are displayed from that time as well. An old-fashioned hardware store, barber shop, and leather and harness shop are examples of some of the shops visitors can see.
