The Briarwood neighborhood in Myrtle Grove, slightly southwest of Pensacola, Florida, is a small neighborhood of single-family homes gathered on a single street. The area has a pleasant rural character, with shady streets and no sidewalks. It is close enough to the Gulf of Mexico to benefit from sea breezes, but is definitely an inland community.
The Briarwood neighborhood consists of one street, Sachem Road, which begins east of 75th Street. Sachem curves into a circle, and both sides of the road are part of the neighborhood. The zip code for Briarwood is 32506.
Myrtle Grove elementary is the neighborhood’s primary school, and Escambia is the local high school. However, the Escambia County School District promotes school choice with magnet schools, charter schools, and academies within existing schools. The district’s Escambia Virtual Academy is a school that is completely online, with no physical classrooms. The Little Flower Catholic School is another neighborhood alternative.

It offers a food court as well as sit-down restaurants. Located off the I-110, the community sits near the Pensacola Regional Airport. In the other direction, where the Blue Angel Parkway meets the Gulf Beach Highway, sits a Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Farther out the Gulf Beach Highway, the 297, are strings of white sand beaches. Perdido Key Drive leads south from the 297 to Perdido Key State Park, which offers acres of dunes and sandy beach. Another option is the Tarkiln Bayou Preserve, where rare pitcher plants and other endangered species are protected. The park has picnic tables, hiking trails, and a boardwalk with views across the bayou.
