Nestled between two picturesque lakes, Sylvan Shores is a small, residential neighborhood on the southern shores of Lake Gertrude and on the northeastern shores of Lake Dora. It’s in the 32757 zip code of Mount Dora. In addition to the lakes to its north and south, it’s also within easy driving distance of Lake Saunders, West Crooked Lake, East Crooked Lake, Lake Woodward, and Lake Louise.
With an area of 0.615 square miles, it has a population of around 1,000 residents. It’s bordered to the north by Northland Road and Sylvan Point Road. West Old US Highway 441 serves as its southern border. It’s bordered to the east by Overlook Drive and to the west by Eudora Road.
Most of the homes in the Sylvan Shores subdivision are single-family, detached houses of varying styles and sizes. There are also townhouses, attached homes, and apartment homes in the area.
The community is about 50 minutes northwest of Orlando. The proximity of Sylvan Shores to US-441 puts the attractions of the big city of Orlando within easy reach of residents, from Walt Disney World to its white sand beaches to its rich assortment of museums.
Cultural attractions also abound in and near Sylvan Shores as well. Royellou Museum, which offers a fun ghost walk for those just seeking entertainment, is within a couple of minutes to its east. The Mount Dora Center for the Arts, which offers educational and musical shows, is to its east as well.
It’s a subdivision that attracts college students, due to the various colleges in the area. Southern Technical College is within easy walking distance to the southwest of Sylvan Shores. Nova Southeastern University is only a couple of miles to its southeast. Lake Sumter Community College offers specialized areas of study, and it’s within ten minutes west of the neighborhood.
