Outer E Outlying-Orange Neighborhood

Outer E Outlying-Orange refers to a more rural section of Orange County, Florida. It is dotted with smaller communities, such as Bithlo and Wedgefield, while still being just a short distance from the busy city of Orlando. While downtown Orlando is dotted with tall buildings, banks, and the ever-popular International Drive, this section of Orange County is dotted with lakes and parks. Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park is located in Outer E Outlying-Orange. This impressive park covers more than 9,000 acres and is excellent for bicycling, hiking, and horseback riding.

Bithlo is a CDP with a population of about 8,300 and is located 18 miles east of Orlando. Many colleges are located within a few miles of the area, including University of Central Florida, Florida Tech, Daytona Beach Community College, and Winter Park Tech-Avalon Campus.

For recreation, it’s a few blocks to Bithlo Park. The expansive park features volleyball and basketball courts, baseball fields, a skate park, fishing lagoons, playgrounds, and picnic sites. Racing is a popular local pastime, and Orlando Speedpark and Bithlo Motorsports Park are both nearby. Local kids enjoy close access to one of the region’s only wakeboarding camps.

Several small storefronts and restaurants are located along the freeway. For larger shopping excursions, it’s just a few miles to Waterford Lakes Town Center. The regional shopping mall houses department stores, restaurants, and both a regular and IMAX movie theater. Attractions in the area include Fort Christmas Historical Park, home to a replica of a fort built during the Second Seminole Indian War, and guided tours of the Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge.

The Wedgefield neighborhood offers a perfect blend of a golf-club community and equestrian’s paradise. Residents wave to neighbors on the sidewalks not just from their car windows, but also from the saddles of their horses and from the seats of their golf carts. The community features bicycle lanes, a quaint neighborhood park, picnic pavilion with public restrooms, playground, and a sports complex with baseball fields, soccer fields, and a sand volleyball court.

The Hal Scott Preserve wraps along the western edge of Wedgefield. Here, residents can hike along nature trails, fish in the lakes, ride their horses along riding trails, camp out, and picnic. The challenging course at Wedgefield Golf Club offers rolling fairways, picturesque water features, and lush Florida landscaping, provide a lovely backdrop for a round of golf. Players can also gear up at the pro shop and relax at the Wedgefield Grille.

Outer E Outlying-Orange is close to downtown Orlando, Interstate 95, Cocoa Beach, the Kennedy Space Center, the eclectic assortment of restaurants on International Drive, the Orlando International Airport, the University of Central Florida, and hospitals and medical centers.
