Situated approximately one mile northeast of downtown Tavares, the neighborhood extends along Mount Homer Road and South Mount Homer Road on the east side of Lake Frances. The railroad tracks and Dora Avenue line the neighborhood’s eastern edge.

Tavares, also known as America’s Seaplane City, is a waterfront town situated between Lake Eustis to the north and Lake Dora to the south. The town has undergone redevelopment, especially in downtown area, with the addition of an entertainment district and a seaplane base. The waterfront area is within walking distance from downtown where residents and visitors can partake in a variety of events.

Downtown Tavares and the nearby town of Eustis are convenient to the residents of Mount Homer. Less than a mile to the north of the neighborhood is Eustis Village Shopping Center, and just to the east of the shopping center is Eustis Square. Residents can also utilize Dora Avenue for easy access to Tri-Cities Shopping Plaza and Golden Triangle Shopping Center, located a few miles farther to the east.

For recreational activities, Tavares has the Fred Stover Park Sports Complex and Wooten Park. The sports complex provides baseball and softball fields and batting cages. Wooten is in the southern section of downtown. Picnic areas, playground equipment, boat ramps, and kayak rentals are available. Children enjoy spending hot summer days at the adjacent seaplane-themed water park. Less than a mile to the south of Mount Homer is Aesop’s Park, where residents can utilize the tennis courts and picnic areas or bring along their dog for a visit to Aesop’s dog park.
