Developed in the 1950s and 1960s, Cleveland Heights is a comfortable neighborhood in central Lakeland. The cozy houses, which primarily are single-family ranch style and duplexes, are built on lots with well-established trees that give the neighborhood plenty of shade. Cleveland Heights Golf Course, an affordable 27-hole course, is on the east side of the neighborhood.
Cleveland Heights is in zip code 33803, and the neighborhood is bordered by South Florida Avenue on the west, Cleveland Heights Boulevard on the east, and Polk Parkway on the south. The Edgemont neighborhood is to the north of Cleveland Heights.
Merchants Walk shopping center is within walking distance of Cleveland Heights, and it has a Wal-mart, fitness center, big-box stores, and restaurants. A Publix Supermarket is less than one mile north of the neighborhood. Lakeland Square Mall, the city’s biggest shopping complex, is seven miles north, and nearby Highway 4 connects to upscale shopping in Orlando and Tampa, which are about an hour’s drive from central Lakeland.
Lake Hollingsworth is just north of Cleveland Heights, and the three-mile path around the lake is popular with walkers and birdwatchers, who have reported sightings of wood storks, dunlins, and roseate spoonbills. The trail passes along the south side of Florida Southern College, and several buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright are visible from the trail.
Cleveland Heights residents enjoy quick access to downtown Lakeland on the Citrus Connection public bus route #30, which stops in the neighborhood. Downtown is home to stores and restaurants, as well as a farmers market and events, such as an annual triathlon and a film festival.
