In the 1850s, Dr. J.D. Starke and several slaves, many infected with malaria, moved into the Ocoee area, settling next to the cool lake to avoid further outbreaks. Today, 200-acre Starke Lake is a popular freshwater fishing and boating spot, with two boat ramps and a fishing dock.
Ocoee, located in Central Florida 12 miles northwest of Orlando, is 3 miles east of Lake Apopka, the fourth-largest lake in Florida at over 30,000 acres. With about two hours to either coast, Ocoee is an apartment-rental dream come true for anyone who enjoys water sports.
With 12 parks, tennis courts, a public golf course, and an aquatic center, and a strong school system, Ocoee is a family-friendly city focused on community. Founder’s Day is held in October and features live entertainment, vendors, rides, games, and more.
Ocoee is a fast-growing area with apartments for rent near major highways, Orlando’s theme parks, and all Central Florida has to offer.
