Outer Mandarin Neighborhood in Jacksonville, FL

Outer Mandarin Neighborhood

Outer Mandarin is somewhat removed from Downtown Jacksonville but still has quick access for those residents hoping to take advantage of the big attractions. Outer Mandarin is a great place for scenery. In virtually every direction is a park or waterway providing excellent opportunities for residents and visitors alike to get a glimpse of Florida wildlife, especially the ever-popular alligator.

The absolute biggest draw to this part of Jacksonville is Big Talbot Island State Park. This massive park is a destination park with many people traveling from around the state to enjoy the offerings. The park itself has numerous trails and waterways that allow visitors to get close to nature. Birds, alligators, turtles, and a wide variety of other wildlife can be found along these trails and in one of the numerous waterways. Photographers, researchers, journalists, and the like visit the park regularly to monitor the great diversity available at the park. There is also a lot of opportunity for active residents looking to get a little exercise. It is possible to rent a kayak at the park and travel via waterways.

Travel is of major importance to the region with many coming to Jacksonville during the winter months and leaving during the summer. The best option for travel is by plane with the Jacksonville International Airport located about 10 miles to the west. This large airport provides travel throughout the country and the world, with the majority of flights on major airlines.

For family fun, the Jacksonville Zoo is only a short drive away. The zoo has numerous exhibits and activities that are perfect for children of all ages and fun for the entire family. As you search for Outer Mandarin apartments, be sure to consider Historic Bayard. Developed in 1884 as a depot town for the transportation of goods from the area’s sawmills and turpentine distilleries, Bayard later became a popular vacation area.

Though it is growing rapidly, Bayard maintains its small-town charms. Live oaks draped in Spanish moss, horses grazing in front lawns and cracker-style, tin-roofed houses still dot this small neighborhood’s landscape. The pace is slower here (even US 1 reduces its speed from 65 to 45 mph through Bayard), but modern conveniences, such as restaurants, shops and service providers, are accumulating in the newly built shopping plazas that line US 1 and Old St. Augustine Road.

Bayard’s prime location makes it a natural choice for people who want to live in the center of the action without the fast pace and traffic congestion of city life. Bayard is less than 30 minutes from the historic downtown attractions of St. Augustine and less than 20 minutes from Jacksonville’s The Avenues Mall, movie theaters, and golf courses. But you don’t have to leave the neighborhood to find things to do. Bayard is home to many newer developments. Flagler Center, Genovar Park, Bayard Antique Village (once the popular Bayard Beautyrest Cabins, built in 1926), The Shoppes of Bayard, the legendary Bayard Rooster biker bar, and much more offer everyday destinations within the neighborhood.
