Most of the area homes are single-family, detached houses of varying styles, from mid-century modern to single-story, ranch style homes. A small percentage of the residential units are townhouses and apartment buildings.
Northwest 17th Avenue serves as the northern border of Westmoreland, while Northwest 8th Avenue is its southern border. Northwest 43rd Street marks the western border of the community, and Northwest 39th Street serves as its eastern border.
While the neighborhood is primarily residential, many businesses and shops are within walking distance of anywhere in Westmoreland. The Milhopper Shopping Center is a half-mile to its north. The Oaks Mall, a major Gainesville shopping center, is two miles to its west.
Cultural and educational attractions are plentiful. Paddiwhack, an unusual art museum, is a half-mile north of Westmoreland. The Ham Museum of Art at the University of Florida is two miles to its southeast. The Florida Museum of Natural History, the Butterfly Rainforest, Artisians Guild Gallery and Thomas Kinkade Peaceful Images are within a two-mile radius.
Westside Park Tennis is about a half-mile east of the community. Many of the more affluent Westmoreland residents are members of the Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club. In addition to its championship golf courses, it has a fitness center, state-of-the-art tennis courts, an aquatic center, and on-site dining.
Entertainment options are also abundant in and near the neighborhood. Regal Cinemas Royal Park Stadium 16 is just under a mile south of Westmoreland. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is just under four miles to the south for the pure enjoyment of nature’s beauty.
