In a part of Central Florida peppered with lakes, Eustis is a great little city just 37 miles northwest of Orlando. It is situated on Lake Eustis, just south of Ocala National Forest. Rent a Eustis apartment and you’ll be ideally located one hour north of Walt Disney World, just over an hour from the Gulf of Mexico and the West Coast beaches, and about an hour from the Atlantic Ocean and Central Florida’s East Coast beaches.

In the mid 1800s, Eustis (then called Highlands) was a steamboat port that took travelers across several lakes. When A.S. Pendry opened a hotel in the area, the name was changed to Pendryville. The town bordered Lake Eustis, named in 1825 for General Abraham Eustis. The town decided to adopt the name and the town became Lake Eustis. After some time the “Lake” was dropped and today’s Eustis finally had a name that would last.

Once you rent your apartment in Eustis, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Clifford House, built in 1910, is a historic home and the location of the Eustis Historical Museum. One of the rooms in the museum is called the “Indiana Jones Room” and is dedicated to Dr. Edgar J. Banks. Dr. Banks was an archaeologist and professor during the late 1800s to the early 1900s, and was the inspiration for the Indiana Jones movies. He retired to Eustis in 1921 after discovering the city during a lecturing trip. He died in Eustis in 1945.

Ferran Park and the lakefront walkway is a great way to enjoy the Florida sunshine. The walkway provides gorgeous views of Lake Eustis. This downtown park also includes the Alice McClelland Bandshell, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is also the location of the Eustis Aquatic Center, two gazebos, picnic areas, boat slips, and a playground.

Life in Eustis is filled with outdoor adventures. Central Florida is known for more than theme parks; from your apartment in Eustis, you’ll never be far from activities such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing, boating, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and sunbathing. Ocala National Forest covers 383,000 acres and is the southernmost forest in the US. It contains more than 600 lakes, rivers, and springs. The park is a popular destination for hiking, horseback riding, camping, swimming, fishing, exploring OHV trails, and bicycling.
