Washington Park lies south of Ormond Beach in Volusia County. The community runs along Volco Road, which runs into Highway 1 at one end and Interstate 95 at the other. Washington Park is a 40-minute drive from Ormond Beach and a 70-minute drive from Orlando.
Volco Road, which makes up the Washington Park, is a rural stretch of densely-wooded road. The homes are widely spaced, and some are set completely off the road with only the driveway visible. The community is very private, completely removed from the tourism found in the nearby beach areas.
Although Washington park has a secluded, rural appeal, amenities like grocery stores, banks, and restaurants are only a few miles away along Highway 1. The Edgewater Public Library is three miles away, and a movie theater is just a six-mile drive.
Nearby houses of worship include the Church of God, Bella Vista Baptist Church, and St. Gerard’s Mission Church, all near the junction of Volco Road and Highway 1.
Children in Washington Park can attend Indian River Elementary, Edgewater Public School, Coronado Beach Elementary, and New Smyrna Middle and High Schools. Area colleges include Daytona Beach Community College, Bethune-Cookman College, and Daytona State College.
Residents who enjoy the beach have their pick of Florida’s Atlantic Coastline. A short drive up Highway 1 and a right on Highway A1A will bring visitors right to the stunning Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna beaches. Daytona Beach is also close by, as is the Cape Canaveral protected seashore.
Washington Park has plenty of nearby attractions, including the Kennedy Space Center, the Museum of Florida Art, the Daytona Playhouse, and concerts at one of the many area venues. Although the area is best-known for its tourism, it actually has a thriving arts culture, which can be seen in the many galleries, museums, and local arts festivals and exhibits.
