Tortoise residents can dip their toes in the water at the beach that is within sight of their homes. When the thrill of the beach wears off, the neighborhood offers a variety of other amenities, including shops, restaurants, parks, an Air Force Base, and schools.
Sea Park Elementary School lies within approximately one mile of the neighborhood. The nearby DeLaura Middle School enrolls approximately 700 students under the mantra “rigor, relevance, and relationship.” Middle school graduates will attend Satellite High School, which has earned a Golden School Award and Five-Star School Award.
The nearby Satellite Cinemas shows first-run movies and is less than a five minute walk from Satellite High School. The movie theater is a part of Atlantic Plaza, which also hosts a variety of restaurants, Big Ron’s Yoga, and a number of other businesses.
For a shorter trip, Tortoise residents can visit the many businesses and restaurants grouped within two miles of the neighborhood. Several auto repair shops are within a five-minute trip, as are local eateries and specialty stores. Religious services are offered locally at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, which is located in the Tortoise neighborhood.
A long walk on the beach is less than 10 miles away at Pelican Beach Park. Pelican Beach offers rentable pavilions and grills for get-togethers, as well as a playground and volleyball courts.
