The beachfront neighborhood of Ocean Dunes is part of the city of Satellite Beach, Florida. It is located on the eastern shore of Merrit Island, across the Indian River from Melbourne and down the coast from Daytona and Daytona Beach. It is fronted by Highway 1A and consists of apartments and condos.
Schools serving Ocean Dunes and the surrounding area include Ocean Breeze Elementary School, Surfside Elementary School, Satellite Senior High School, and Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School.
Da Kine Diego’s Insane Burrito, Pistilli’s, Texas Roadhouse, and Doubles Beachside are some of the popular restaurants in the area.
Satellite Beach is just one of the many beaches on Merrit Island. The long and relatively quiet Melbourne Beach has been a long-time local favorite. There is also Indian Harbour Beach and Cocoa Beach nearby.
Cocoa Beach is a residential community, as well as a primary tourist destination. Visitors can watch a space launch from the Kennedy Space Center or view animals in a natural habitat. Seeing dolphins is a common occurrence at Cocoa Beach, and even migrating whales can sometimes be seen.
Satellite Beach has an off-leash dog park with benches, shaded areas, dog toys, drinking water, and even plastic swimming pools.
In Satellite Beach, there are facilities for racquetball, tennis, and skating. Other points of interest include a community center, Samson’s Island, Pelican Beach Park and Clubhouse, Hightower Beach Park, and a sports park.
