Grand Isle is a gated community for residents over age 55; the neighborhood is located south of Viera Boulevard, less than two miles east of the Indian River. Grand Isle Boulevard is the main road, and it loops around the length of the development, past man-made lagoons and pocket islands. Other roadways, like Boca Rio Drive and Keys Gate Drive, branch out but end in cul-de-sacs. The single entry gate results in limited traffic for this peaceful neighborhood. Development started in 2002, and the project was completed by the end of 2004.
In the northwest corner of the neighborhood is the Club Grande Isle, a community center with an outdoor pool, art studio, tennis courts, bocce ball, and shuffleboard courts. Water aerobics, yoga, and card parties are also held here, along with a variety of community events. In addition, the club has its own restaurant and lounge.
Golf courses nearby include Baytree National Golflinks, the Duran Golf Club, and the Viera East Course. Less than a mile west along Viera Boulevard are a Walgreen’s and a handful of restaurants. The same roadway leads to Avenue Viera, a small mall near Interstate 95. Following the Interstate north leads to the Rockledge Airport, as well as the River Lakes Conservation Area and Lake Poinsett. The lake is a favorite spot for bass fishermen.
Heading east on Viera Boulevard takes residents to Rockledge Boulevard and the beaches along the Indian River. This same roadway leads south to the Pineda Causeway and the barrier islands, home to Patrick Air Force Base.
