Located along the shores of the Indian River, the Carlton Terrace neighborhood is situated on Cocoa’s north side and consists of single-family homes along Carleton Drive, Coquina Drive, Lucerne Drive, McFarland Drive, Clairemont Drive, and portions of Indian River Drive. The subdivision is bordered by Broadview Drive to the south, Belmont Drive to the north, North Cocoa Boulevard to the west, and the Indian River to the east.
The residences are primarily single-story homes, the majority of which were constructed in the 1950s, although some development dates back to the 1920s. Homes along the neighborhood’s eastern edge offer residents a scenic view of the Indian River with direct access through private docks. Wide sidewalks along both sides of its streets make Carlton Terrace a pedestrian-friendly community that provides plenty of space for outdoor activities.
Residents of Carlton Terrace with children will enjoy a convenient commute to several area schools, including Cambridge Elementary School – which is located 1.5 miles to the southwest – as well as Clearlake Middle School, which is also within one and a half miles along Michigan Avenue and Clearlake Road. Older students will benefit from easy access to Cocoa High School, which is fewer than two miles from the subdivision. Brevard Community College’s Cocoa Campus awards degrees in programs ranging from cosmetology and early childhood education to fire science technology and computer programming and is a five-minute trip from the community.
Residents seeking an array of shopping opportunities can travel six miles to the east to neighboring Merritt Island to visit Merritt Square Mall, which is anchored by such big-name department stores as Dillard’s and Macy’s, and also features dozens of specialty stores, several eateries, and a movie theater. A Wal-Mart Supercenter is also conveniently located one and a half miles to the northeast.
