Cocoa is a small Floridian city located 50 miles east of Orlando. Originally named Indian River City, many of the city’s residential neighborhoods overlook the Indian River. Carleton Terrace lies in Cocoa’s 32922 zip code, minutes from the banks of the Indian River. The community sits east of North Cocoa Boulevard (US Route 1) and south of State Highway A1A.
Carleton Terrace is an established neighborhood and is pedestrian-friendly, sitting within walking distance of bus stops on North Cocoa Boulevard and Bellair Drive. Public transportation is provided by Space Coast Area Transit, serving Cocoa and surrounding communities like Merritt Island, Indian Harbor Beach, and Cocoa Beach.
Residents live within two miles of a Wal-Mart Supercenter. This shopping area has both fast food and casual restaurants, as well as a discount grocery store. A bus stop sits in front of the Wal-Mart on Clearlake Road, which also hosts a Post Office, more dining choices, a large grocery store, and a pharmacy.
The Brevard Community College-Cocoa Campus sits less than two miles south of Carleton Terrace, and is accessible via public bus. This two-year school has the distinction of being the largest campus of the school’s four county sites. Area residents can take advantage of attractions located on campus, including the Astronaut Memorial Planetarium. In addition to an art gallery, theater, and exhibits, the Planetarium has an observatory with the state’s largest public telescope. Both the exhibits and observatory are free to the public.
Outdoor recreation is a ten-minute drive from Carleton Terrace at Travis Park, which lies off Michigan Avenue to the north of Brevard Community College. The park’s community center features a gymnasium, game room, and computer lab. Outside facilities include a lighted sand volleyball court, a half-basketball court, and playground.
