Satellite Beach is on a long finger of land separated from mainland Florida by the Indian River Lagoon. Just south of Cape Canaveral, the barrier island is connected to the mainland by the Pineda and the Eau Gallie causeways, both originating in the city of Melbourne. Satellite Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island.
Within Satellite Beach, Barberry is a block-long neighborhood that lies northwest of the town center. It is landlocked, but is no more than one-half mile from the waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Sunset Street is the main road into Barberry, moving in a lazy curve past a small collection of duplexes on the southern end. The rest of the community is comprised of townhomes and condos lining this main road and tiny Smith Court.
The duplexes, built in 1998, are one-story Mediterranean in style. The town houses were built in 2000. Homes in Barberry are surrounded by lush lawns, landscaped gardens and palm trees. On the southwestern end of the neighborhood is a community clubhouse and swimming pool.
Several schools, both public and private, are within a few blocks of Barberry. The United Methodist and Holy Apostles Episcopal churches are also within walking distance. Atlantic Plaza, a fairly large mall across from the sands of Satellite Beach, is approximately one mile west. The mall includes the Satellite Beach Cinemas. Closer to home, locally-owned Puzinos Pizza offering New York-style pies one-half block away.
