Highland Park Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Highland Park, Daytona Beach is a pretty neighborhood of ranch homes on spacious lots. Spanish moss hangs from ancient trees and azaleas bloom in the spring. Riviera Country Club is less than a mile east. Highland Park is bound by Alabama Avenue, Old Kings Road, 11th Street South, and Derbyshire Road.
It is a convenient area for shopping, entertainment, and recreational activities. A Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market is just east, within walking distance. Another popular retail area is Volusia Point Shopping Center with Dillard’s and Macy’s department stores. For upscale shopping, many residents enjoy Fountain Square at Ormand Beach, about five miles away.
A great museum is the Museum of Arts and Sciences. All ages enjoy the planetarium and world-class exhibits. There is a Children’s Museum as well.
Other historic attractions include Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, built in 1887, and the Howard Thurman Home, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens, now a quiet park, is where molasses and sugar were once produced. Just north at Ormand visitors can tour John D. Rockefeller’s winter home.
There are several universities in Daytona Beach. Both Bethune-Cookman and Daytona State College offer undergraduate degrees. Three public libraries serve Daytona Beach residents.
Daytona Beach is internationally known for several key attractions and events. Of course, there is the Daytona International Speedway. For fishermen, Mosquito Lagoon (a short walk from Highland Park) is almost as famous, drawing sportsmen from around the world. The Lagoon is also a great place to see mangrove swamps and marine life.
Of international interest, too, are the festivals, especially those at Peabody Auditorium. The world’s most famous performers have graced the stage here, and it is the frequent home to Broadway Musicals.
A short drive south is Cape Canaveral, Patrick Air Force Base, and Canaveral National Seashore.
