Higbees Daytona Apartments for Rent

(hide neighborhood information)

Higbees Daytona is a neighborhood of small, older homes conveniently located near two of Daytona’s universities and Daytona International Speedway. It lies east and west of South Ridgewood Avenue between South Street and Shady Place. The world-famous fishing grounds known as Mosquito Lagoon form the eastern boundary.

The Howard Thurman Home is part of the neighborhood. Thurman was a preacher and educator who mentored Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior. His home is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bethune-Cookman University is within walking distance. Founded in 1904, the university, known for nurturing creative students, offers undergraduate degrees. Dayton State College is just a bit west and offers degrees in the arts, engineering, health care, education, and business.

Daytona International Speedway, just west of Higbees Daytona, is one of the city’s most famous destinations. It is also a good area for entertainment, especially New Life Cinema and IMAX.

Daytona Beach is alive with festivals every month of the year. Two in particular receive national attention. The Florida International Festival celebrates dance and music. The Annual Arts Festival features such names as the London Symphony Orchestra. The Peabody Auditorium, an historic building, brings national performers to Daytona Beach.

Shopping is quite convenient. Volusia Point Shopping Center has both Dillard’s and Macy’s. There is a Wal-Mart SuperCenter and a Sam’s Club at Beville Road. There are several public golf courses in the area. Indigo Lakes boasts a championship course. Daytona Beach Golf Club, very reasonably priced, offers 36 holes.

Of course, the beautiful beaches are the top recreational areas. Canaveral National Seashore is a great place to explore ocean wildlife and archaeological sites. There are many state parks and forests to the west.

Other attractions include the Seaside Music Theater, and at Ormand Beach, the Casements, once the winter home of John D. Rockefeller.
