The Enterprise Zone is an old manufacturing area with more commercial and industrial areas than residential. As of 2000, there were fewer than 875 residents in this community, while the surrounding neighborhoods are much more heavily populated. However, this neighborhood does provide a lot of jobs for the city, especially in manufacturing.
Those who do live in this community enjoy easy access to major highways and plenty of local jobs. Shopping, dining, and entertainment options exist along the nearby highways and in the downtown area to the south. Several small shopping centers are just outside of neighborhood bounds on the east and north, including the Grand Central, Stratford Square, Bayview, and Shoppers Plaza shopping centers.
The St. Vincent’s Medical Center is just a few minutes west of this community, and it constitutes a convenient health care option and provides more local jobs. The Bridgeport Hospital is within a few miles of this community as well.
Many small neighborhood parks and playgrounds exist near Enterprise Zone, including Washington Park, Glenwood Park, and Svihra Park. Beardsley Park is a large park just a few minutes to the north, which offers a large pond and is host to the Beardsley Zoo.
