As its name would suggest, the East Side neighborhood is situated on the east side of Bridgeport, Connecticut, next to the East End and just on the other side of the Pequonnock River from the downtown area. It is only a 30-minute drive southwest of New Haven. This large community is roughly bounded by the river on three sides, extending to Highway 1/Boston Avenue on the north. Residents of the East Side neighborhood enjoy direct access to the Bridgeport Harbor and the Amtrak/Metro-North Rail system, and thoroughfares Interstate 95 and Main Street/Highway 127 conveniently cross the community. The Bridgeport Hospital is situated just outside of neighborhood bounds on the east, and the University of Bridgeport and Housatonic Community College are just a few minutes to the southwest. Many of the community’s roughly 13,100 residents are employed in education or health care.

Renter-occupied apartment complexes outnumber single-family homes in the East Side, but some of both can be found within neighborhood bounds. At least three historic districts can also be found here.
Many amenities and attractions exist in and around this community. For local shopping and dining, the Grand Central and Stratford Square Shopping Centers are located on the north side of the neighborhood, and many more independent shops and eateries are located within walking distance of this community.
