Buckley is a unique neighborhood in Manchester, Connecticut, located on the northeast side of the city. It is about two and a half miles from downtown, part of the 06042 zip code in Hartford County. This community is convenient to several major roadways. It is bounded by East Center Street and the Middle Turnpike on the south, Lake Street on the east, Woodbridge Street and the local railway on the west, and Taylor Street on the north.
This diverse community is a mix of residential areas, commercial offerings, and less developed areas that are home to coyote and deer; in total, the community spans more than 1,800 acres. Most of the residential areas are made up of single-family housing with a suburban feel. There is room for more development here, and there are plans in the works for enhancing existing neighborhoods and ensuring compatibility between new development and older homes. A mix of housing styles can be found in Buckley, including some stately Victorians, Capes, and ranchers. The homes here are generally in very good condition, and the population is as diverse as the housing styles. Sidewalks exist throughout, either on one or both sides of the street, which makes this a pedestrian-friendly community.
Students living in this community attend the Buckley School, and the school grounds also host much of the neighborhood’s recreation. Salters Pond is also situated here, and some soccer fields can be found along Kennedy Road. Finally, the town’s city swimming pool is also located within this community.
Buckley is just a short drive from the downtown area, convenient to the Manchester Memorial Hospital and dozens of parks and shopping centers. A large retail area exists just a few miles to the west, dominated by the Buckland Hills Mall.
