Single Californians looking for a place to rent a house or apartment always have their research to do. But for Californians with families to consider, finding quality rental housing requires more study. Is there an ideal place in that offers employment, lots of recreational opportunities, good schools and a safe community, with rental homes available? The answer is a definite “Yes!” Look no further than the city of Vista.

Located in north San Diego County, Vista is only seven miles from the Pacific Ocean. Its population of almost 94,000 has ample opportunities for work including the area’s largest employer, Vista Unified School District, supporting 1500 jobs. Other opportunities can be found at the city’s business park, home to over 800 companies.

The positive employment picture is just one of the reasons Vista was listed as the “seventh-best place in the US for family life” by author Kathleen Shaputis in her book, “50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family.” The author based her choices on other factors as well, such as education, climate and cost of living.

What about rental housing opportunities? In Vista, housing status is split almost down the middle, with half of the city’s residents living in their own homes and half renting their homes, so that rental housing is almost always becoming available.

That doesn’t mean a lower standard of living for this community; according to the San Diego government, after adjusting for inflation the median household income for the area is $49,153, higher than the national average.

The school district offers eighteen elementary schools, six middle schools, and seven high schools. The city also supports two theaters. The Moonlight Amphitheatre, located in Brengle Terrace Park, is an open-air theater that specializes in musical productions. Avo Playhouse, a restored theater, hosts the winter season.
