Are you looking for a scenic, peaceful city where you can stroll down the streets, stop in at a cafe, browse the boutiques, and chat with the local store owners? Want to shop at a farmer’s market and buy organic produce? Visit the community theater or go horseback riding? Spend an afternoon hiking in the mountains or on the golf course? How about strolling through museums or a historic district? San Juan Capistrano, California is the perfect place for all of these activities.
The crown jewel of this city is, of course, the mission itself. Mission San Juan Capistrano dates to 1794 and is a historic landmark and museum. With exhibits, historical re-enactments, and 10 acres of gardens and fountains, this is Orange County’s only mission.
Los Rios Historic District has 31 structures, three of which are adobe homes built in 1794 for mission families. It is the oldest residential neighborhood in California. The O’Neill Museum is located here, as well.
Known as an equestrian destination, there are a large number of stables in the city. The mission’s Serra Chapel was the site of the first vineyard and winery in California. Located just 8 miles from Caspers Regional Park in the Santa Ana Mountains and just 4 miles from Capistrano Beach, this beautiful city has something for everyone.
