In between the high rise corporate offices, shopping centers, and computer warehouses, there is a circular, tree-lined court with four walkways leading to its square center. It has one column on its northwest corner. This represents the center of Town Center in San Mateo.
Town Center is a residential neighborhood separated by its business district. It is also part of an area situated between Central Lake, Marina Lagoon, Seal Slough, and the San Francisco Bay, as well as a midpoint between San Francisco to the north and San Jose to the south.
The residential community is bound by Metro Center Boulevard to the west and north, Shell Boulevard to the east, and Hillsdale Boulevard to the south. However, many businesses, hotels, and retail shops can be found between Metro Center Boulevard and J. Arthur Younger Freeway.
Just west of this community, is the J. Arthur Younger Freeway/Bayshore Freeway (Highway 101) interchange. These are critical highways. One freeway, Highway 101 heads north to San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The other heads east and connects San Mateo with the communities on the east side of the San Francisco Bay, via the San Mateo Bridge.
Since Town Center sits near the border with Foster City, many of its attractions can found there. Central Lake and Leo J. Ryan Memorial Park are south of Hillsdale Boulevard. Farther northeast on the lake’s shore is Foster City Dog Park and Boat Park off of Foster City Boulevard. Another attraction in this neighboring city is Foster City Public Library, which is near the Hillsdale and Shell Boulevard intersection.
Metro Center Shopping Center on Hillsdale Boulevard is the main mall in Town Center. KinderCare Learning Center off of Shell Boulevard is an educational center for the youngest residents in the community.
