Sunnyvale West is a large community comprised of the neighborhoods that lie between the eastern boundary of Mathilda Avenue and Sunnyvale-Saratoga Avenue, and the western boundary of Sunnyvale. Its southern boundary is Homestead, while its northern boundary is Maude Avenue. The Sunnyvale West area is approximately eleven miles northwest of San Jose.
Sunnyvale West is ideal for dog lovers. Las Palmas Dog Park is in the neighborhood, and it offers a great packed dirt area where dogs can be off-leash and run with plenty of space. The community is also home to plenty of businesses that cater to dog lovers, including veterinary offices, pet sitting services, and doggie day care centers.
It is also a great community for those who are into physical fitness. The Sunnyvale Municipal Tennis Center features well-lit, professional tennis courts. Private and public lessons are offered for beginners as well. There are plenty of parks in the area as well that offer hiking, biking, and jogging trails or open areas, including Washington Park, De Anza Park, and Mango Park.
The Los Altos Golf and Country Club is a neighborhood hangout for the wealthier residents of Sunnyvale West. It has plentiful, sprawling golf courses, an award-winning restaurant on-site, and a golf club for women. It also offers facilities for special events.
Many college students call Sunnyvale West home. Colleges and universities in the neighborhood are within walking distance include the University of San Francisco, University of East-West Medicine, Cogswell Polytechnical College, De Anza College, Mission College, and California South Bay University.
