Snail is a medium-sized, densely populated community to the northwest of San Jose in Sunnyvale. With an area of 0.727 square miles, this neighborhood has a population of approximately 7,500 residents. It is bordered by the Bayshore Freeway, North Fair Oaks Avenue, East Maude Avenue, and North Mathilda Avenue.
Almost half of the houses in Snail are single-family detached homes. A small percentage of the residences are mobile homes, while almost 35 percent of the residential buildings in the neighborhood of Snail are apartment complexes. Among the single-family detached homes, there is also a good amount of diversity. From ranch style single-story homes to Mediterranean-style homes, to classic two-story American homes, the variety of home design and size is significant.
The California Billiard Club, approximately two miles southwest of Snail, is a popular place for area residents and also offers a restaurant, bar, and grill.
Snail is a family-friendly community. California’s Great America is a famous theme park that is located less than three miles east of the Snail neighborhood. It attracts people from all over the country, and residents are only a very short drive from it on any given day. The Winchester Mystery House is only a few miles southeast of the community of Snail, and it is especially popular around Halloween.
The biggest reason that the neighborhood is family-friendly, however, is the fact that some of the best San Jose schools are within or very near the community. Columbia Middle School is located within the neighborhood. Also within walking distance are Bishop Elementary School, Rainbow Montessori, The King’s Academy, San Miguel Elementary School, and Sunnyvale High School.
